Authentication of signatures

Pursuant to LAF – the fee under Tariff No. 131 (request) is 8 euros; the fee under Tar. No. 144 (service) is 13 euros or 21 euros in total


Drafting a Power of Attorney 

Pursuant to LAF – the fee under Tariff No. 131 (request) is waived, the fee under Tar. No. 139 (service) is 10 euros or 10 euros in total 


Procuring certificates 

(certificates and excerpts of the Registers of Births, Deaths and Marriages, Certificates to repatriate human remains, Certificate of No Criminal Record from RNM, Certificate of Freedom to Marry from RNM)

Pursuant to LAF – the fee under Tariff No. 140 (request) is 30 euros, the fee under Tariff No.144 (service)  is 13 euros or 43 euros in total


Minutes of Inheritance Proceedings

Pursuant to LAF – the fee under Tariff No (request) is 8 euros, the fee for minutes at the DCR under Tariff No.151 (service)  is 30 euros for the first page and 4 euros for every subsequent page, the fee for minutes outside the DCR under Tariff No..151 (service)  is 84 euros


 

Registration in the Civil-Status Records

Registration in the Register of Births

Documents needed to register the birth of a child born abroad whose parents are nationals of the Republic of North Macedonia:

• Request to register a birth in the Register of Births of the Republic of North Macedonia signed by both parents. If only one of the parents is a Macedonian citizen, the other parent should provide written consent; 

• Original extracts from the Register of Births with Apostille if the country is a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention; 

• Certified Macedonian translation of the extract (unless the country is a member of the Vienna Convention on Issue of Multilingual extracts from Civil-Status Records of 1976). 


Registration in the Register of Marriages 

Document needed to register a marriage concluded abroad:

• Request to register a marriage in the Register of Marriages;

• Valid ID card or passport;

• Extract  from the Register of Marriages of the relevant country;

• Extract from the Register of Births (if the extract from the Register of Marriages in incomplete);

• Macedonian translation of the extract issued on a simple form certified by the diplomatic-consular representation of RNM


Registration in the Register of Deaths 

Documents needed to register a death of a Macedonian citizen who has died abroad:  

• Request to register a death in the Registry of Deaths; 

• Valid ID card or passport of the person submitting the request; 

• Extract from the Registry of Births issued by the country where death occurred; 

• Certified Macedonian translation of the extract issued on a simple form; 

• Burial-transmit permit if the person needs to be transferred to the Republic of North Macedonia

The service fee pursuant to LAF – Tariff No. 131 (request) is 8 euros, under Tariff. No. 136 (service) is 12 euros or 20 euros in total; under Tariff No. 132 (delivery to/from RM) the fee is 6 euros within Europe or 9 euros outside of Europe


 

Burial-Transit Permit

The Burial-Transit Permit for a Macedonian citizen who has died abroad is issued by the diplomatic-consular representation of the Republic of North Macedonia under whose jurisdiction the deceased is to be transferred from.

Documents needed to receive a burial-transit permit:

  • Request for a burial-transit permit; 
  • Proof of citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia (travel document of ID card or certificate of citizenship of RNM); 
  • Extract from the Register of Deaths issued in the country where the death occurred; 
  • Medical certification of death stating the cause of death (the cause of death cannot be a contagious disease)
  • Approval (confirmation) for the transport of the deceased by the country where the death occurred; 
  • Information on the means of transportation of the deceased (if the transport is carried out by land, burial-transit permit forms are needed for all the countries the body of the deceased will transit through);
  • Name and surname of the individual accompanying the deceased and a copy of their travel document; 
  • If the deceased is not a Macedonian citizen, the burial-transit permit is issued upon receiving the approval of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia
  • Consular fee

The fee pursuant to LAF – Tariff No. 131 (request) is 8 euros, under Tariff. No.136 (service) is 12 euros or 20 euros in total


 

Certificates of Title

The citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia, temporarily or permanently residing in the United States of America, Canada, the Republic of Austria and the Republic of Serbia are able to obtain a certificate of title immediately through the diplomatic and consular representations of the Republic of North Macedonia in Detroit, Toronto, Vienna and Belgrade. 

Documents needed for the issuance of a title certificate:

  • A request (available at one of the above-mentioned diplomatic and consular representations), which needs to be filled in with your personal data as well as data on the real estate for which you are requesting a title certificate, including: name of municipality, name of cadastral municipality, title certificate number, cadastral parcel number, building number, entrance number and number of separate part of the building (apartment, office, garage etc). 
  • Valid ID card or passport or other photo identification document (for verifying the identity and establishing the citizenship status).
  • If the property is not yours, the request is submitted only with an original copy of a power of attorney (drafted by a notary public of the Republic of North Macedonia or duly certified by a DCR of RNM or with an Apostille if drafted by foreign authority of a country signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention). 

Certificate of Title Issuance Fee

Consular fee

The fee pursuant to LAF – Tariff No. 131 (request) is 8 euros under Tariff No. 132 (delivery to/from RM) is 6 euros within Europe and 9 euros outside of Europe, plus fee to the Real Estate Cadastral Agency in the amount of 150.00 denars in counter value of domicile currency as well as the bank fee for the transaction.

Note: The Certificate of Title is issued solely as 1 (one) original copy.


 

Travel documents

Passport

During the stay abroad, the passport may serve as a proof of identity and citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia. 

The passport is an electronic identity document issued to a citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia for traveling and staying abroad as well as for returning to the country.

Emergency Travel Document 

Emergency travel document is a personal document issued to a citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia who has found himself/herself abroad without a passport and serves only for returning to the country. The Emergency travel document is valid for 30 days from the issuing date or for the time required to return to the Republic of North Macedonia. 

Document needed to obtain an Emergency Travel Document:

  • Request for an Emergency Travel Document filled out by hand (on minor’s behalf it is submitted by both parents in person or by the parent acting as legal guardian). 
  • Two photographs sized 3.5 x 4.5 cm
  • ID card or other valid document verifying the identity of the applicant (valid Macedonian or foreign original photo document). If no identity document is provided, the identity can be verified through certified witness statements while the ETD is issued upon the approval by the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia.  
  • Proof of citizenship (valid ID card, passport or original copy of the Certificate of Citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia). If no proof of citizenship is submitted, the Emergency Travel Document can be issued upon the approval by the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia. 
  • Proof of consular fee paid

The fee pursuant to LAF – Tariff No. 133 is 30 euros if the ETD is issued without MOI’s approval. The fee pursuant to LAF – Tariff No. 132 (delivery to/from RM) is 6 euros within Europe and 9 euros outside of Europe that is 36 or 39 euros in total, if the emergency travel document is being issued upon the approval by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia. 

For nationals of countries with a currency other than the euro, the fee is payable in the respective national currency.

In case of lost or stolen travel document, the report of lost/stolen passport issued by the competent authorities should also be submitted.


Issuing travel documents at the diplomatic-consular representations of the Republic of North Macedonia 

A citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia in addition to the travel document application form must also enclose the following: 

First-time applying for a travel document

  • Certificate of Citizenship of RNM 
  • Extract from the Register of Births 
  • Identity document issued by a competent authority of RNM or the country of residence 
  • Valid residence permit in the country of residence (only for persons without resolved citizenship status in the country of residence) 
  • Extract from the Registry of Births 
  • Identity document issued by a competent authority in RNM or the country of residence 
  • Valid residence permit for the country of residence (only for persons without resolved citizenship status in the country of residence) 

2. Regular replacement

  • Old expired travel document 
  • Valid residence permit for the country of residence (only for persons without resolved citizenship status in the country of residence) 

Duplicate travel document (due to loss, theft or misplacement)

  • Certificate of Citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia  
  • Valid residence permit for the country of residence (only for persons without resolved citizenship status in the country of residence) 
  • Extract from the Registry of Births 
  • Identity document issued by the country of residence or the Republic of North Macedonia (ID card etc.) 
  • Police report (translated into Macedonian) about a stolen, lost or misplaced travel document 
  • Personal statement signed by the applicant regarding a lost/stolen/misplaced travel document
  • Publishing a notification of the lost/stolen/misplaced travel document in the Official Gazette of RNM (in person or by relatives living in the city covered by the regional unit of MOI which issued the passport) 

Early replacement (due to damage, coming of age, change of personal information etc.) 

Please submit the original travel document to the DCRs of the Republic of North Macedonia

  • Valid residence permit for the country of residence (only for persons without resolved citizenship status in the country of residence) 
  • The old valid travel document is retained and forwarded to MOI for inspection 
  • In case of applying for a new travel document more than a year ahead of the expiration of the old travel document on the date of submitting the application, the old valid passport is retained and forwarded to MOI for inspection
  • In case of applying for a new travel document due to a change of personal details, the application is not processed unless the change of personal details has been duly registered at the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia and unless the changes have been entered in the mobile unit system.

Applying for a travel document for a minor

  • When applying for a travel document for a minor, both parents must appear in person at the diplomatic-consular representation of the Republic of North Macedonia with the child’s extract from the Registry of Births as proof of identity of the parents. If a parent is unable to appear in person, a power of attorney certified by the diplomatic-consular representation of the Republic of North Macedonia authorising one parent to apply for a child travel document on behalf of the other parent should also be submitted. In case of applying for a travel document for a minor of divorced parents, the sole guardian of the child must submit a sole-custody ruling made by the local competent court.
  • In case when both the marriage and divorce were concluded and finalised abroad, the ruling must be translated into Macedonian and certified by a competent authority in the Republic of North Macedonia. 
  • In case of applying for a minor when one of the parents (father) is not listed in the extract from the Registry of Births, the supporting documents should only include the child’s extract from the Registry of Births.
  • A travel document for a citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia residing abroad may be issued at the following diplomatic-consular representations: Melbourne, Canberra, Chicago, New York, Detroit, Toronto, Berlin, Bonn, Munich, Stockholm, Copenhagen, the Hague, Brussels, Bern, London, Paris, Venice, Vienna and Ljubljana.  

The fee pursuant to LAF – Tariff No. 133 is 25 euros for persons under 4, 27 euros for persons aged 4-27 and 30 euros for persons over 27, while the fee for issuing a duplicate or replacement passport is 30 euros.

Citizenship 

Certificate of Citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia

Citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia living or residing abroad for more than six months may apply for a Certificate of Citizenship at the nearest diplomatic-consular representation.


Acquiring citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia 

Citizens entitled to citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia may initiate the procedure for acquiring citizenship at the nearest diplomatic-consular representation. Please follow this link for more information on the Process for acquiring citizenship of RNM. 


Renouncing citizenship at the DCRs of the Republic of North Macedonia 

The citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia may renounce their Macedonian citizenship under the following conditions: 

  • have reached the age of 18; 
  • have duly settled all their property-legal and other public obligations towards all state and private entities, enterprises, organisations and other legal and natural persons; 
  • have regulated all the property-legal and other public obligations arising from marriage or parent-child relationships towards persons living in the Republic of North Macedonia; 
  • have submitted proof issued by a competent authority that no liquidation of dissolution proceedings have been initiated against a company they are founders or shareholders of; or against a sole-proprietor, if applicable; 
  • no criminal proceedings have been initiated for an offence prosecuted ex officio; 
  • have served their prison sentence for the crime they were convicted of; 
  • have proof of foreign citizenship or a guarantee that foreign citizenship will be granted after renouncing their Macedonian citizenship;

Document needed for renouncing Macedonian citizenship: 

  • Filled out application to renounce the citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia; 
  • Signed resume of the applicant; 
  • Extract from the Registry of Marriages if married; 
  • Guarantee that foreign citizenship will be granted  (The fee pursuant to LAF  - Tariff No. 131 (request) is 8 euros, the fee under Tariff No. 145 (service) is 130 euros, under Tariff No. 4 (decision) is 100 euros, under Tariff No. 147 (authentication of official signature and seal) is 120 euros or 358 euros in total, plus the fee under Tariff No. 132 (delivery to/from RM) which is 6 euros within Europe and 9 euros outside of Europe);
  • Consent of the child over the age of 15 if the application to renounce is on his behalf; 
  • Parental consent for a child under 18 years of age, 
  • If it contravenes the national security interests of the Republic of North Macedonia the application to renounce Macedonian citizenship may be denied.
